Common Questions
Can I reject a faulty car?
In the UK, you have 30 days to reject a car for a full refund if it has a fault. After 30 days, you must allow one repair attempt before rejection. After 6 months, you need to prove the fault was present at purchase.
What about used cars from dealers?
Used cars from dealers have the same Consumer Rights Act protection as new cars. They must be of satisfactory quality considering their age, price, and mileage. Major faults are still grounds for rejection or refund.
What if I bought from a private seller?
Private sales have fewer protections - the car only needs to match its description. However, if the seller misrepresented the car (e.g., said it had no accidents when it did), you may have a claim for misrepresentation.
What to Do
- Document all faults with photos and videos
- Get an independent inspection report
- Keep all repair receipts and invoices
- Write to the dealer formally in writing
- Don't accept 'goodwill' if entitled to refund
