UK energy supplier complaints, 2025 Q3
Energy bills are the easiest place for a supplier to mess things up — wrong meter readings, surprise back-bills, frozen direct-debits, you’ve heard the stories. Ofgem and Citizens Advice publish a quarterly league table of which suppliers customers complain about most, and which resolve issues fastest. Here’s the data.
Data last updated: Ofgem 2025 Q3
Complaints per 100 customer accounts
Lower is better. Industry average for 2025 Q3: 0.9 per 100 accounts.
| Rank | Provider | Tier | |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Outfox the Market | 0.01 per 100 accounts | Gold |
| 2 | Octopus Energy | 0.6 per 100 accounts | Silver |
| 3 | British Gas | 1.2 per 100 accounts | Below average |
| 4 | EDF Energy | 1.2 per 100 accounts | Standard |
| 5 | Scottish Power | 1.4 per 100 accounts | Below average |
| 6 | OVO Energy | 1.5 per 100 accounts | Below average |
| 7 | Tru Energy | 2.2 per 100 accounts | Below average |
How we score
Composite ratings combine the complaints rate (weight 0.5) and next-day resolution rate (weight 0.2), renormalised because Ofgem doesn’t publish a separate uphold rate for energy retailers. The full formula lives at /data/methodology.
