How to complain

Make a complaint online

Etsy handles complaints through its official online form.

Complaint escalation guide

Is there an ombudsman for Etsy? Most high-street and online retailers are not covered by an ombudsman. If Etsy will not resolve a faulty-goods or refund complaint, your escalation route is a Section 75 claim or chargeback, then Trading Standards, then the small claims court.

How do you escalate a Etsy complaint? If you paid by credit card and the item cost over £100, make a Section 75 claim (or a chargeback on a debit card). Report the trader to Trading Standards through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline, and for unresolved amounts use the small claims court.

Tips for Etsy complaints

  • Etsy's Purchase Protection can refund qualifying orders that never arrive or arrive not as described - open a case with the seller first
  • Message the seller through Etsy to open a case before escalating to Etsy support
  • Screenshot the listing, the order, and the messages before leaving a review
  • If you paid by card and Etsy won't help, ask your bank for a chargeback on the transaction
  • Etsy has no phone line - complaints go through the online Help Centre contact form
